Alex Muhangi to host at UNAA Seattle 2018

Ugandan comedian and creator of Kampala’s famous Comedy Store, Alex Muhangi, will be one of the hosts at the 2018 UNAA Convention in Seattle, Washington. Muhangi will host the Annual Grand Banquet for Cultural Heritage. The dinner, which will feature a fundraiser and a keynote speech from Global Soap Project founder Derreck Kayongo, starts at 7:00 PM on Sunday September 2nd 2018.

Alex Muhangi is a Ugandan comedian, actor sound engineer, director and host of hit comedy show Comedy Store Uganda. He has been listed as one of the top 10 Ugandan comedians and personalities and as one of the pioneers of standup comedy in the English language in Uganda.

Muhangi has performed across the world including South Africa, Zambia, Malawi, Zimbabwe, South Sudan, Kenya (Churchill Show), Tanzania, Rwanda, Canada, Australia, Somalia, UK, German, Norway, Sweden, Nigeria, Ghana, Turkey, UAE, China as well as appearing on The Improv in the United States.

UNAA Cultural Gala Keynote: Derreck Kayongo

Ugandan philanthropist and motivational speaker Derreck Kayongo will give the keynote speech at this year’s UNAA Convention Grand Banquet for Cultural Heritage. The event will be the climax of this year’s UNAA Convention in Seattle, Washington. The dinner starts at 7:00 PM on Sunday September 2nd 2018. Derreck will also be a judge at Miss Uganda North America.

Derreck Kayongo was born January 25, 1970, in Kampala, Uganda, just before General Idi Amin Dada seized power in a military coup. The new regime became known for its brutality, and today Idi Amin is one of history’s most notorious dictators. As violence spread through the country and civil war erupted, Kayongo and his family became refugees in Kenya. He later immigrated to America to attend university. Today, he is a successful entrepreneur and human rights innovator.

Though most well known as a 2011 CNN Hero and founder of the Global Soap Project, Kayongo is an expert in environmental sustainability and global health, as well as the current CEO of the National Center for Civil and Human Rights in Atlanta, Georgia. In 2016 the Georgia State Senate passed a resolution recognizing Kayongo’s incredible journey from refugee to CEO.

Anita Fabiola to host at UNAA Seattle 2018

Ugandan actress, business woman and philanthropist Anita Fabiola will be one of the hosts at the 2018 UNAA Convention in Seattle, Washington.  She will host the Miss Uganda North America Beauty Pageant and Rise Up Awards for Diaspora Voices for Women Empowerment.

Anita Kyarimpa better known as Anita Fabiola is a Ugandan actress, event host, business woman, philanthropist and former beauty queen. Prior to hosting the Be My Date show on NTV in 2014, Fabiola became Miss Uganda West and the first runner-up in the overall Miss Uganda beauty pageant in 2013. She is also known for hosting some of the Africa’s biggest red carpet events. These include Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards in Nigeria (2016), Namibia Annual Music Awards (2016 and 2017), Ghana Movie Awards 2017, Ghana Music Awards 2016, Glitz Awards Ghana 2017, Abryanz Style and Fashion Awards 2016 among others.
